Mrs. Nash Interview

By: Josie Veilleux

I interviewed Mrs. Nash, the new band teacher so everyone could learn a little more about her. Hope you enjoy!

Here are some of the questions I asked:

-How old were you when you first learned to play an instrument?

I started in 5th grade with 40 other orchestra members in Texas.

-What was the first instrument that you ever learned to play?

My first instrument was violin.

-If there is one, what instrument would you like to learn to play/play better?

Last year, I started working with a great piano teacher, Daryl Rhodes. He was teaching me jazz theory, and improvisation skills. I really hope to continue my learning with him sometime in the near future.

- What is your favorite instrument to listen to?

It would depend on the style of music. There are so many, I couldn't just pick one!

-When and why did you first become a band teacher?

I was highly influenced by several music teachers when I was younger. They listened, had patience and challenged me to be a better person and musician. My hope as a teacher is to pass on the gifts that I was given.

-What is your favorite thing about teaching band at OMS?

The students at OMS. They have been so welcoming, hard working and respectful. They say hi in the hallways, are responsible and take care of each other.

- What other schools have you taught at?

Old Town Elementary School, Greenbush, Alton, and Bradley Schools, Etna-Dixmont School, and Sebasticook Valley Middle School

- What is your favorite genre of music?

Singer/Song writer, rock, rap, jazz (I listen to a different genre every day)

- Who is your favorite musical artist?

Ed Sheeran

- How long have you been teaching band?

I've been teaching for 9 years.
